Cochrane District Trip July 2018
We visited the Cochrane District in late July 2018 and checked some sites which we visited during the same period in 2017 as well as a few new sites. The weather was uncooperative and half the time we spent in the area was not conducive to finding leps or odes.
We traveled to Moosonee for an overnight stay to evaluate that area. Unfortunately it was raining the day we arrived and the next day was heavily overcast with the temperature at about 12° C. We only saw two butterflies in Moosonee, a Great Spangled Fritillary and an European Skipper. While these were only third records for Moosonee, considering the weather they actually should be quite common. The only dragonfly we saw in Moosonee was a female spreadwing flying around at the train station on the day we arrived
While one of our objectives was to look for emeralds we only saw one emerald (Ocellated or Brush-tipped) which flew around our car as we were removing our boots and getting ready to leave our last stop on our last day in the area.
